Maintaining functional integrity. Cable conduits designed to maintain functional integrity (E classification) protect circuit systems against surrounding fires. Under MLAR/2005, electrical circuit systems used in safety systems required under building law, such as fire detector systems, backup power systems, safety lighting and smoke and heat extraction systems, must be designed so that the safety systems remain functional for a sufficient length of time if they are exposed to an external fire.
